01 / ABOUT KORE
Craig Kalinowski
Founder & HVAC Design Specialist
I’m Craig, a Korean American adoptee and the founder of Kore HVAC Services. I started Kore to make heating and cooling more personal—from the first conversation to the finished installation.
My interest in engineering began while studying electrical engineering at Michigan Tech. I entered the trades in the summer of 2015 at Manderfield PHE in Houghton, Michigan. Hands-on work in plumbing, electrical, and heating helped me discover what I enjoyed most: understanding a problem, designing a practical solution, and building it with care. My experience since then has spanned HVAC service, project management, and helping homeowners plan improvements.
At Kore, I start with your home: how you use it, where comfort falls short, and what matters to you. Those conversations shape the design. We work through the options and tradeoffs together, finding a solution that fits your priorities and budget.
I care just as much about how that design comes together. Thoughtfully routed piping, carefully fitted sheet metal, and a clean installation reflect the pride I take in the work—including the details you may rarely see.
You work directly with me from start to finish. I guide the consultation and design, personally carry out the installation, commission your equipment, and handle warranty registration. You get personal attention, clear explanations, and a price agreed in advance for the defined scope of work.

My starting point is what fits you: your building, your comfort, and your budget. I recommend equipment on that basis, rather than loyalty to a particular brand, manufacturer, or supplier.
Furnaces, central air conditioning, ducted heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, and SpacePak or Unico high-velocity systems.
Hot-water and steam heating, radiators, baseboard, radiant floors, and the piping and controls that bring them together.
Conventional tank, tankless, indirect-fired, and solar water-heating systems.
Ductwork, airflow balancing, and complex zoning for forced-air and hydronic systems.
Garage unit heaters, rooftop units, split systems, and planning for the connections and supporting work an installation needs.
An unusual system or a project that doesn’t fit a standard package? Tell me about it. I’m happy to work through what’s involved—including practical details like planning a gas-line route or coordinating trenching.
Every detail serves a purpose.
02 / OUR APPROACH
The measurements tell me what your home needs. You tell me what better comfort means.
I start with questions: Which rooms are uncomfortable? When does it happen? Who feels it most? And how much does it affect your day? Your answers help me focus the design on the problems you actually want to solve.
For heating and cooling design, I measure the home and its windows, sketch a floor plan by hand, and assess loads. When designing from scratch, I work room by room. For water heating and other specialized projects, I assess the demand and existing setup. The goal is the same: a sound basis for our decisions and realistic expectations.
I look beyond the equipment to the distribution, controls, and connections it depends on. Airflow, piping, operating temperatures, materials, and zoning all inform the plan where relevant. Whether we’re adding to an existing system or starting fresh, I consider how the parts will work together.
Good data doesn’t mean we have to pursue every possible improvement. I tailor the plan to how you actually use the house, your priorities, and your budget. I explain the benefits, the tradeoffs, and the comfort you can realistically expect. You choose how far to take it.
I want the finished work to look beautiful even to someone who knows nothing about HVAC. Carefully fitted sheet metal, thoughtfully routed piping, and clean details matter to me. My standard is work I’d be proud to put under gallery lighting.
Commissioning is where I verify the installation with instruments and readings. Depending on the system, that includes checking airflow, refrigerant charge, and combustion, then making the appropriate adjustments to blower settings, balancing dampers, or equipment setup. I account for the ductwork and piping the equipment is connected to and follow manufacturer requirements. Turning it on is the beginning of that process, not the finish.

A few moments from my work,
and the thinking behind it.

Piping, wiring, and figuring out how everything works together—this is the kind of work that drew me into the trades. I enjoy bringing order to a complicated system.

My service background shapes how I approach design. I want to understand what a system is doing, where it falls short, and what actually needs to change.

I care about how equipment fits a home, right down to its base and the space around it. Those decisions are part of the installation from the beginning.

Working around Chicago means working with all kinds of buildings. I like the challenge of finding a practical solution for the space in front of me.

A Bosch system may be the right fit, but I start with your comfort goals and budget. The equipment choice follows that conversation.

I studied electrical engineering before finding my way into hands-on work. That curiosity stayed with me—I enjoy understanding the controls as much as building the system around them.

One reason I started Kore was to stay involved from the first conversation through installation and commissioning. I take pride in carrying the plan through myself.
